Does Wine Advertising Influence Your Choice In Any Way?

admin
Categories: advertising

And if so, why does it influence it in this way?
For example, if you see a wine advertised on tv or in a popular magazine (not a specialist or trade magazine) does it encourage you to look out for that wine, or does it actually make you think it’s a bit uninspiring, dulled to suit the palettes of everyone?
Thanks!

If I see a wine advertised, I assume it is mass produced and not a fine wine. I would never buy it on advertising alone, it would have to come with a recommendation from someone whose taste I know and agree with.

Usually the wines that are advertised in this way are from Major Corporations whose only interest is in making money, not in making quality wine, and whilst the wines are perfectly ok to drink they are rarely inspiring or anything special. Personally i always buy wine through my own research from either a specialist wine retailer for special occasions ie a dinner party, or the local supermarket for evryday table wine.

  3. If I see the ad in a cooking magazine or on TV, I won’t buy it. It’s just a generic wine, nothing special about it. Just mass-marketing because they have made thousands of cases. I prefer wineries that only come out with several hundred cases a year and can’t afford expensive ads.

  4. The adverts don’t influence me but when I’m buying wine the bottle itself does. If I’m looking to try something new I look at the labels first and if it has a nice design that doesn’t look cheap I’ll pick it up and read the back to see what flavours are supposed to be in it. I go by friends’ recommendations as well.

    NO
mostly because I don’t see/read wine advertising very often, and basically the few i see is cheap stuff: Arbor Mist, Sutter Home, etc
if I want cheap wine, i buy whatever is the cheapest… if i want something of quality, i ask, research on the web or look at reviews

  6. Only if i have never tried the brand before, but my local liquor clerks know me and my taste and if i ask like i always do and they say it is crap or that i would hate it i tend to take their word for it.
I do not care how man Bud, miller, Coors ads i see they all still stink and Jack is better than Crown no matter what the ads say.

Wine advertising DOES influence me … probably the exact opposite of what the ad agency would prefer. When I see an ad for wine I presume it isn’t very good and they are doing everything in their power to try to sell it. I’ve never bought wine because of an ad.

Here in Spain wine is everywhere. Everybody drinks it. We can get great wines for less than 2€ a bottle. Any wines advertised are expensive and the local Spanish people won’t pay more than 2€ a bottle and that goes for me too.

If it is a varietal that I drink and is in my price range I might try one I see advertised.
Some times I do check first to make sure it is not rubbish though.
