As the costs spiral upwards and private employers ditch their health care schemes to stave off bankruptcy, increasing numbers of Americans have reduced their health insurance to the barest minimum, and when something goes wrong they are dependent on the back-up provided by the state. Which is by the way paid by their own taxes. No back up, no way to pay, no health care. In a lot of European countries socialised health care means that everyone has access to affordable care, and it is not a free ride as it is paid by their taxes. It also means that those who cannot pay are not left to die. Since socialised health care is a bad word in the States let them all die if they can't pay (that's bad irony by the way.
